2010: Ministry Across the Generations: Creating Multigenerational Faith Communities
Theme Speaker: Margaret Sequeira
Minister of the Week: Rev. Meg Barnhouse
"Touching Inward Spirits" — Ideas submitted on-island:- 1) Make foyer and RE space more multigenerational, muligeneration-looking; 2) Help adults and kids interact at coffee hour by providing a table where an all-age activity is possible.
- I posted small dry erase boards outside each classroom so the teachers can write the day's class subject for the parents to see. I found this easier and "greener" than sending a sheet home.
- For a Thanksgiving service, create a Table Graces booklet with input from the congregation. (Carole Mills, Keene UU Church)
- Seven Principles Liturgical Calendar. One principle a month: Sept-1st (red), Oct-2nd (orange), Nov-3rd (yellow), Dec-off, Jan-4th (green), Feb-5th (blue), Mar-6th (indigo), Apr-7th (violet), May-wrap up. Sermon topics and RE lessons all coordinate/focus on the same principle for the month. A take-home sheet is inserted in the OOS on the first Sunday of the month. The rest of the month, they are available on the RE bulletin board. Contents of the sheet include: Intro and reflection on pricinple, family discussion questions, ritual to perform/share, adult book recommendation, movie recommendation, childrens' book recommendation, social action of the month. Then, there is a monthly discussion group focused on the the principle of the month. (Developed by Kim Mason and Rev. Bob janic-Dillon)
